St. Florian has received a great deal of support from these
organizations and wishes to thank them for their past and present support.
Awesome
Biker Nights (ABN)
ABN sponsors an annual motorcycle event
held in Sioux City every third weekend in June. This locally popular
event draws bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts from across the country
to Siouxland with motorcycle exhibits, concerts, vendors, special
events, bike raffles and poker runs. The proceeds from the events
are donated to many local charities.
ABN has become St. Florian’s largest sponsor and is the major
source of our operating capital. The proceeds St. Florian has received
from ABN has allowed us to build on to and continue our one of a kind
Miracle Burn Camp. Members of ABN ride their motorcycles up to our
camp every year and enjoy visiting with our kids, in doing so they
witness firsthand the effect Miracle Burn Camp has on our children.
The members of ABN take pride in their community and contribute greatly
to it. Thanks ABN, were would we be with out you.
The Fraternal Order of Eagles
In June of 2005 the Iowa Chapter
of the Fraternal Order of Eagles donated a one time $100,000 check
to our partners at the Children’s Hospital of Iowa-Burn
Treatment Center, in Iowa City. This very large and generous donation
made by the Eagles will go towards Iowa’s Miracle Burn Camp.
To all of our Fraternal Order of Eagle Friends, Thank You and God Bless
you all.
Sioux City Professional Firefighters Local #7
Sioux
City Professional Firefighters Local #7 was instrumental in the formation
of and the continued support of St. Florian. Many Sioux City firefighters
hold offices on the St. Florian Board of Trustees and are councelors
at our annual burn camp. The union IAFF Local #7 and its firefighters
have supported St. Florian with donations and fundraisers. Local 7
firefighters have volunteered thousands of hours in assisting St. Florian’s pursuit of its goals and objectives.
As our kids would say “Thank You Firefighters!!”
St. Luke's Medical Center and Health Foundation
Most of St. Florian's Fire and Burn Prevention Education was sponsored with grants obtained through the Burn Unit. Children's Miracle Network provided financial support through their fundraising efforts. The grants received from Children's Miracle Network were utilized for burn and fire prevention programs. The programs were taught throughout Northwest Iowa to children in grade schools by a trained and dedicated nursing staff from the Burn Unit. Such programs have proven to reduce the number of fires and burns in rural areas. St. Luke's continues to offer burn and fire prevention education to the children throughout Northwest Iowa. The Public Education Officer from the Sioux City Fire Department provides the education to the children within Sioux City. The partnership has the potential to benefit and educate all Siouxland Children
Children's Miracle Network had also been a major source of funding for Miracle Burn Camp. In the last few years, Miracle Burn Camp has been fortunate to receive funding from Awesome Biker Nights as well. This past year St. Florian has had the opportunity to partner with St. Luke's Health Foundation to provide our campers with another great year at Miracle Burn Camp. Through the generosity of the Health Foundation, Miracle Burn Camp promises to be a week of healing and friendship for years to come.
St. Luke's Medical Center continues to support SOAR and the Burn Support Group by providing a place for the group to meet. The Support Group meets monthly in the lower level of the hospital. In August, St. Luke's hosted the 1st Annual Monopoly Tournament that raised funds to send burn survivors to a conference in Baltimore, MD.
Many of the nurses from the St. Luke's Medical Center hold offices on the St. Florian Board of Trustees and are counselors at our burn camp. These nurses are indeed our most precious assets; they have spent countless hours helping burned patients through painful rehabilitation and surgery. They have also dedicated themselves to helping their patients through their contributions with St. Florian.
YMCA Camp Foster
Camp
Foster on East Lake Okoboji has been the location of our annual burn
camp since its inception. The administrators and staff at Camp Foster
have from the beginning opened their hearts and minds to our ideas
and needs and have turned St. Florian’s dream for a regional
burn camp into a reality. Camp Foster’s staff and facilities
are the best in the nation (at least we think so) and as any of our
campers will tell you “spending a week at Camp Foster is like
spending a week in heaven.” A very special thank you to all of
our friends at Camp Foster.
International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF)
The
IAFF Burn Foundation sponsors the National Burn Camp held every year
in Washington D.C. Each burn camp throughout the U.S. and Canada sends
one camper and one councelor to the National Burn Camp. While there
they visit all of the memorials and get tours of the White House and
the Capital. The IAFF Burn Foundation also contributes $120,000 annually
towards burn research nationwide. Once again “Thank
You Firefighters.”
